The Teacher Librarian at Damascus College combines curriculum knowledge and pedagogy with library and information management skills to build a vibrant, welcoming and resource rich learning environment.

The role involves:

  • Collaborating with teachers to plan, teach and evaluate programs that integrate information literacy and digital technologies.
  • Supporting students and staff in accessing, using and managing information effectively.
  • Promoting reading, literature appreciation and a culture of curiosity and learning.
  • Managing and maintaining library resources and systems.
  • Contributing to professional learning and supporting the integration of digital learning tools across the curriculum.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in teaching and librarianship with current VIT registration.
  • Sound understanding of inquiry-based learning and collaborative teaching practices.
  • Sound knowledge of digital literacy.
  • Detailed knowledge of young adult literature and ways to promote and foster a love of reading.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with students, parents and teachers to provide a supportive learning environment.
  • An understanding and willingness to work within the Catholic ethos, traditions and practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal obligations relating to child safety, including mandatory reporting.
  • Experienced in using ICT tools, including Microsoft Office, to enhance teaching across subject areas.
