About the Role

The Education Consultant (Primary – Southern Zone) is a senior leadership role supporting Primary School Principals across the Southern Zone of the Diocese. Working closely with the Deputy Director: Catholic Education and other key leaders, the Education Consultant will help create school environments where children and young people can flourish.
Each of the Diocese’s four zones have dedicated Education Consultants and this role joins a committed team serving a system grounded in compassion, service, respect for human dignity, and inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Key to the role is fostering a holistic approach to education that integrates faith, wellbeing, and learning. The consultant will also act as a line manager and strategic partner to Principals, promoting strong, shared leadership across schools.
Key Responsibilities of this role will include:
Promote Catholic Identity
- Model and lead faith-based educational practices grounded in Catholic tradition.
- Promote Catholic Social Teaching and foster respectful, values-driven relationships.
- Support strategic vision and leadership development in enhancing Catholic school identity.
Provide Leadership
- Lead and support principals through coaching, policy guidance, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance and effective response in areas like complaints, incidents, and school culture.
- Drive leadership formation, principal appointments, wellbeing, and school improvement initiatives.
Support Learning and Teaching
- Guide schools in improving student learning through evidence-based teaching and assessment.
- Support planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and professional learning.
- Analyse and use data to inform system-wide educational improvement and accountability.

Key Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in education and post-graduate qualifications in Education, Religious Education, Leadership and/or Theology.
- Significant experience in a senior educational leadership position.
- Significant experience managing strategic initiatives and change management.
- Ability to work with Principals to build their capacity as Faith, Wellbeing, and Learning Leaders and community builders.
- Outstanding communication to facilitate effective coaching, relationship building, and conflict resolution processes.
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
