Maintenance Officer

Full Time

Damascus College is seeking a motivated and skilled Maintenance Officer to join our Property Maintenance team. Working under the direction of the Property Manager, this role ensures our College facilities are well maintained, safe, and presented to a high standard for our students, staff, and community.

The Maintenance Officer is responsible for the day to day up-keep, presentation, and operational support of College grounds, buildings, and facilities. This includes carrying out repairs, maintaining gardens and outdoor areas, supporting College events and activities, and ensuring all maintenance practices align with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing routine and reactive maintenance across College buildings and grounds.
  • Painting and general upkeep to ensure facilities are well presented.
  • Maintaining gardens, lawns, and outdoor areas.
  • Assisting with event setup and pack-downs.
  • Performing manual handling and lifting of furniture, equipment and deliveries.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment, tools, and essential services safely.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in maintenance or property management for large facilities.
  • A trade qualification or demonstrated experience in a relevant field (e.g. painting, plumbing, carpentry) is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of OHS systems and ability to prepare Safe Work Method Statements.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
  • Physical capability to undertake the inherent requirements of the role.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
