About the Role

St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Warracknabeal, is seeking a passionate, energetic and innovative Specialist Teacher to join our vibrant school community for one day per week (0.2 FTE) on a fixed-term contract.

We welcome applications from both Primary and Secondary qualified teachers with expertise in Science, STEM or Performing Arts. However, we are also open to exploring other specialist areas aligned with the Victorian Curriculum Learning Areas where they enhance and enrich student learning.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to design and deliver engaging specialist programs that foster curiosity, creativity and a love of learning while contributing positively to our collaborative school culture.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Catholic education and to the safety, wellbeing and protection of children.
  • Plan and deliver a high-quality specialist program that engages and challenges students.
  • Provide students with rich, meaningful and contemporary learning experiences.
  • Develop curriculum and learning experiences aligned to the Victorian Curriculum.
  • Create safe, inclusive and positive learning environments that support student growth and achievement.
  • Use effective teaching strategies to cater for a diverse range of student abilities and learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Assess, monitor and provide feedback on student learning and progress.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, families and the broader school community.
  • Contribute positively to the collegial and collaborative culture of the school.

Key Selection Criteria

Applicants should demonstrate:

  1. Understanding of and commitment to Catholic Identity and Mission.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum and the AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers.
  3. Experience delivering engaging and innovative learning programs within a specialist area.
  4. Evidence of effective classroom management and the ability to foster positive learning environments.
  5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues and families.

About Us

St Mary's Primary School, Warracknabeal, was opened in 1901 to provide an education which promotes the Christian formation of its students within the Catholic tradition. From 1928 to 1987 the Ballarat East Sisters of Mercy accepted responsibility for the running of the school. Since then a dedicated lay staff have enhanced the standing of St Mary's throughout the wider community.
